THE RECKLESS PIRATES CARNIVAL: A BRILAND INVASION
This past Fourth of July weekend Valentines Resort played host to a wonderful Bahamian cultural event, The 2017 Reckless Pirates Carnival: Briland Pirates Invasion.
Tourists and island locals were given a taste of all things Bahamian during this two-day event. Kicking off the event was the fashion showcase by Shelly Monique’s presenting her “Freedom Rush” collection. Shelly is a Bahamian born, self-taught artist and designer who draws inspiration from the vibrant colors of the Bahamas in her work.
Following Shelly Monique’s fashion collection, Latoya Rankine treated attendees to an interactive fire dance performance. Latoya is a Professional Fire Dancer who trained with the Bahamas National Dance School and Emanji Circus Arts and was awarded the title of Miss Cultural Bahamas in 2010.
To wrap up day one’s fashion presentations the evening ended with the Prince of Dunmore’s (JJ Percentie) Fall 2017 fashion collection and a show closing performance by the Showtime Junkanoo group.
Day two of the 2017 Reckless Pirates Carnival continued with a Pirates Road Invasion Parade led by a music truck and mobile bar. The parade, with participation open to everyone, moved through the streets of Briland with participants dancing and partying in celebratory fashion on foot and in golf carts. As the parade made it’s way through the streets many locals came out of their homes to participate in the free giveaways and sample all the tasty treats passed out by parade participants.
Valentines Resort and Marina has committed to hosting the popular Reckless Pirates Carnival in 2018. Be part of this great Harbour Island event by making your reservations and travel plans early!
